ATP & FNT "Old Skool" Challenge

28 Aug 2010, 10:40

From the FNT.

"Those nice guys at ATP have come up with a new challenge for us....

Chris has chosen an "old Skool" trick, so at the final FNT round at Burton on Trent in 3 weeks time (Round 6 Burton on Trent Weekend 11 & 12 Sept 2010), there will be a challenge for the best rendition of the trick,
with the winner winning a bit of ATP bling

Oh, and the trick............ an off side barefoot.

This used to be quite a regular trick amongst FNT riders, very common for the opening trick. I recall both Gary Grant at Nitrojet starting their 2 minutes from the far end
of Nitrojet lake doing a barefoot and raising their hand at the last minute, very impressive!

So you're going to start off in a similar position as if you are going to do a bulldog, but pull your knees forward and lift your feet off the water.
Then get some speed up on some flat water and throw your feet forward so that the soles of your feet are planing on the water. Point your toes up so they don't catch
in the water and break your metatarsals, no matter how trendy that maybe to do these days! You do need a fair bit of speed.

Included in the deciding factors will be variations, such as lifting of your feet, "running" or you can lift your body away from the ski.... up to you!
A key element of the barefoot is the 180 turn at the end which will also be included in the deciding factors, how or what you do is up to you......

The challenge is open to everyone, so get practicing!

There is a video snippet here in the rider's first trick-

There are also a couple of archive photos of some old codger doing them many moons ago..."
